Full Time Physio |
Why did you decide to become a physio?
I've always played a lot of netball, and as a result was frequently injured and at the physio. I really liked the idea of being a physio because they always helped me so much and it seemed like it would be really rewarding. I studied physio at Monash Uni and started at The Physio Co as my first job out of uni. During my studies I worked in a pet shop (for 7 years!), which I really enjoyed. It almost made me want to become a vet, but I stayed strong to physiotherapy all the way and I'm really glad I did.
What do enjoy most about working with oldies?
The elderly people I see are always excited to be working with a physio, and are very appreciative of my help. I feel like I really make a difference in their lives, which is so rewarding. They all have such a vast and varied life experience, that I can learn plenty of things off them, while they are learning lots from me!
What's an example of something you've recently done to help a client?
There is a lovely elderly man at one of the facilities I work at that has unfortunately had a recent deterioration in his ability to walk and move - he has severe arthritis in one of his hips, which causes him a lot of pain when walking. I felt that he would really benefit from a nice, new and customised wheelchair. So I wrote a letter to the Department of Veterans Affairs to request funding and described how my resident would benefit from this chair, because he was uncomfortable in standard wheelchairs due to his height, long legs, and the problem with his hip. They approved the funding, which is such a good result for this resi, and he loves the chair as we speak!

What do you like most about working at TPC?
I could list a few things, but the aspect I like the most is the supportive team I work with. The other physios and the people in the support office are always so willing to help out if I am having any difficulties, or even if I just have a quick question about something I'm unsure about. They are really good people to work with!
Where did you grow up?
In Ormond, in the same house I still live in!
What's your ideal holiday destination, and why?
Probably somewhere tropical! I saw an island called Aitutaki in the Cook Islands on Getaway that looks absolutely beautiful. It's the type of place I have always wanted to go - it just looks so surreal.
What's your favourite meal and what would you drink with it?
Definitely moussaka, I love Greek food, with chocolate mousse for desert. I would probably have it with a glass of sav blanc - something a bit fruity!
