What do you love about working with oldies?
There are two main things that come to mind, one is that they are always so appreciative of your help.
Part of TPCs values states that one small thing to us may be the only thing that matters to another person, I think this is very true with the elderly.
The second is from when I first started working, a physio of mine who worked in Aged Care said that the reason he enjoyed working with the elderly were their stories. He said "they have made it", they have gone through so much in their lives (work, family, travel, wars) and it is amazing some of the stories you hear.
Tell us about your career so far...
I went to school in Bendigo and then studied Physiotherapy at The University of Melbourne, graduating in 2002. My Physio career has involved working in Regional Victoria and here in Melbourne. A mixture of private practice, private hospitals, public hospitals and aged care facilities was involved in my early career. Between 2005-07 I worked in two private practices in Taylors Lakes and Sydenham. During this time I also joined The Physio Co and Initially worked as a Physio in a number of aged care facilities. In 2007, I was promoted to a part time Clinical Operations Manager role and in 2008 I accepted a full time position as a Clinical Operations Manager. Here I remain!
What's one of your best experiences as Clinical Operations Manager?
I think one of the best experiences from working at TPC in my role is to be able to help out some of the younger physios who are just starting out. The difference you see over the first few months is great, with increased confidence.
Why do you like working at The Physio Co?
One of the best things about working at TPC is being a part of a growing company. The place has certainly changed a lot since I started here 3 years ago and to see it grow and be part of the changes has been fantastic.
TPC still has a very small company feel. It brings great rewards for the work we do both with the improvements we can see with our residents, as well as other rewards (like getting a voucher to go Skydiving).
