When Lynn, 82, was first referred to TPC, his goal wasn’t about marathons or gym sessions – it was something far more personal:
“I want to get out of my armchair easier… so I can celebrate when Collingwood wins a game,” Lynn told May-Ann, his TPC physio.
A proud Magpies fan, Lynn and his wife Barbara spend many weekends side by side in their favourite armchairs, watching the footy. But a past knee fracture and ongoing pain made it hard for Lynn to bend his leg, let alone stand up smoothly. He’d shuffle with a stiff leg, and although he was still getting out and about, he wasn’t doing any regular exercises.
Together with May-Ann, they created a goal that mattered to him, and then got to work.
Over 10 weeks, Lynn committed to simple exercises to help him bend his knee again and build strength in his legs. More importantly, May-Ann educated Lynn about how moving regularly could actually help reduce the pain. Lynn loved tracking his progress; each week, he could see real improvements in his timing and movement.
And the results?
Lynn can now stand up from his armchair with far less effort. He’s also walking further and moving with greater ease, now able to swing his leg through with a natural bend instead of locking it straight.
For Lynn, this isn’t just about football (although that was a big part of it!) – it’s about independence, confidence, and being there for Barbara, whom he lovingly cooks for and supports each day.
It’s been incredibly rewarding to see how far Lynn has come, not just physically, but in how confidently he tackles each new goal.
Next up: Lynn is keen to improve his balance in the kitchen so he can keep dishing up meals for Barbara and himself, with or without the walking frame.
Lynn’s story is a reminder that goals don’t have to be big to be meaningful – they just have to matter to you.
