For many of us, putting the dishes away is something we do without a second thought.
For TPC client Jane, however, reaching across to place a dish in the drying rack had become painful and difficult.
Living alone, Jane wanted to remain as independent as possible. Everyday tasks like washing the dishes are an important part of maintaining that independence, but pain in her right arm meant she often had to rely on her left hand – or both hands – to complete a chore that had once been simple.
Together with her physiotherapist, Brooke, Jane set a simple but meaningful goal:
“To be able to reach across to put the dishes in the drying rack using my right arm.”
Over the next eight weeks, Brooke worked with Jane using a combination of hands-on therapy, gentle massage and personalised exercises to improve her strength and range of movement.
Not every session was spent inside. On the warmer days, Jane and Brooke made the most of the sunshine by heading outside for a walk around the block, helping Jane stay active while working towards her overall health and mobility goals.
By the end of her goal period, Jane had achieved exactly what she had set out to do.
She was once again able to reach across with her right arm and place the dishes in the drying rack without needing to rely on her left hand. A task that had become frustrating and painful was now comfortable and much easier.
Jane was delighted with the result, sharing that she was so happy that doing the dishes had become easier again.
For Brooke, seeing Jane reach her goal was incredibly satisfying.
“It was really rewarding to see that the work we’d done together resulted in improvements that made a real difference to Jane’s everyday life.”
At The Physio Co, we know that success isn’t always measured by running a marathon or climbing a mountain. Sometimes it’s being able to complete the everyday activities that allow you to live independently, safely and with confidence.
Congratulations, Jane, on smashing another important goal!
