The Physio Co Helps Rodney Set And Achieve Goals At His Own Pace
Goal-setting is all about the individual and pushing ourselves to what we can achieve.
For Rodney Corbett, a fracture to his left hip in October 2018 set him on a road to recovery that would test his powers of determination.
His long-term goal was to get back to socialising with friends at his work group at the Repatriation Hospital.
An upcoming doctor’s appointment meant he had to access a standard taxi – and with this goal in mind, Rodney and his physiotherapist Thinesh practised getting in and out of his car using his four-wheel walker for support.
Together they’d do these transfers several times at the start of the session, using the car itself as an aid; for instance, using the car door to help himself sit, shuffling his bottom back and using a plastic bag to help him slide back into the seat more efficiently.
Rodney also put plenty of effort into his home exercise program, which consists of lower limb strengthening exercises. He says:
“I was surprised that I was doing so good. I feel more confident now compared to a few months ago.”
Rodney’s wife, Marge, a constant support for Rodney, says:
“Compared to what he was when he came back from the hospital, he is a 100% better now.”
Rodney’s physio, Thinesh, said:
“I am looking forward to continue working with Rodney to help him achieve his long-term goal of going back to the Repat Hospital with his four-wheel walker to take part in his work group.”
GOAL ACHIEVED! Congratulations Rodney and your driving ambition!
