Freedom. It’s something we take for granted in our younger years, but as we age it becomes increasingly restricted. That’s why regular physiotherapy and strengthening exercises are so important as we grow older.
That’s where The Physio Co comes in. By helping seniors set exercise goals that are both a challenge yet achievable, we help people to stay active and mobile for longer.
One of our clients, Bette, is a case in point. Bette’s problems started in Sept 2020 when she had a fall, fracturing her lumbar spine and requiring a stint in hospital.
Bette was clear straight away on what her goal should be: “I want to go for long walks outside with my friend Peggy without having any lower back pain.”
Great connection
Key to achieving this goal was the bond she struck up with her physiotherapist, Maddy (pictured above with Bette). Anyone who sees the pair working together can tell what a great connection they have.
Maddy said: “At the first appointment I saw Bette, she had 7/10 pain in her back. We worked on releasing her muscles around her back, strengthening her lower back and improving her walking endurance.
“By the time we reviewed her goal again a couple of months later, Bette no longer had any back pain and was walking nearly 1km around Bartonvale Village with her walker and with Peggy – goal achieved.”
Confidence & technique
Support from Maddy has given Bette the confidence and technique to set new goals, adding: “After each session with Maddy I feel really good and relaxed, inside and out. I don’t ever want physio to stop.”
Maddy is equally complimentary about Bette’s efforts:
“Friday afternoons with Bette are always a great time and a good laugh,” she says. “Even if Bette doesn’t always remember I am coming, she always does a great job and works very hard to achieve her goals that are meaningful for her.”
Bette didn’t stop there – she’s already set herself a new goal. “I’d like to be able to walk around outside Bartonvale Village without needing my walker or my walking stick so I can feel a sense of freedom.”
Another great example of a TPC client smashing their goals – and a big shout out to Maddy for supporting Bette every step of the way!
