Determination is a great asset in the challenge to regain full mobility. With the right attitude, you’re halfway there.
The Physio Co always sets relevant and achievable goals for its clients, but it’s the individual’s hard work that is rewarded.
Valda (pictured) is a case in point. She’s a very determined woman and readily accepted the challenge of putting in the hard yards to reach (and then maintain) her goal.
Her own target was to stand up long enough to do the ironing, and to cook a meal without being completely worn out afterwards.
The longer-term goal is to get back to walking outside long distances and tending to her garden, which she loves.
Valda’s main issues were breathlessness, general fatigue, reduced confidence and limited balance.
With the help of her TPC physio, Kelly, Valda worked hard to regain her endurance and strength through her personalised exercise program. When the weather allowed, they held sessions outdoors, which gave Valda added motivation.
Valda’s enchanting five-acre property was a beautiful backdrop for a walk and she would perform her exercises at fence posts along the way.
Looking at her plants and veggie garden also gave Valda lots of extra motivation to get back out there.
Kelly says: “With each session Valda was noticeably improving, and you could see energy returning to her face as doing her day-to-day activities became more manageable.”
Great determination
Showing great determination, Valda reached her goal ahead of schedule and was able to impress Kelly with the news that she’d made dinner and completed her ironing throughout the week without being overwhelmed by tiredness.
Valda’s gratitude to Kelly was clear, and she gave this honest account of the difference she’d made: “I was severely debilitated and had spent four weeks in rehab. I was very apprehensive about having physiotherapy at home, until Kelly arrived. Over the weekly sessions together I have developed a great respect for her expertise, knowledge and relational skills.”
Great work
Kelly, in turn, says: “This quote nearly made me cry when she was reading it out to me. What a beautiful lady who I am so lucky to be working with.”
Well done, Valda – your determination paid off, and great work Kelly – another TPC-er helping clients to reach their goals.
