When we talk to our clients about goal-setting, one of the strongest motivational factors is family.
It makes perfect sense; creating memories with our nearest and dearest is a good reason to get fit and strong – and stay that way.
The Physio Co helps clients to set goals so they can visualise the rewards that await all their hard work. And we’re delighted to tell the story of Vito, one of our latest successes, whose sights were firmly set on making his 90th birthday one to remember.
When Vito’s physiotherapist, Brooke, started working with him, they devised the following goal: “To make my legs stronger so I can stand easier and go out in my wheelchair with my family for a celebration of my 90th birthday.”
Vito was a little concerned that he didn’t have the strength to make this possible. After all, think how important mobility is when you go out for a meal or similar celebration: getting in and out of a vehicle; using the loo; standing up to cut your birthday cake. If you feel worried about any of that, it affects your enjoyment of the event.
So Vito and his daughter, Angela, decided the birthday celebration would be the perfect goal, making Vito feel special by seeing all his family again after lockdown.
Vito’s specific concern was getting strong enough to easily stand to use the toilet. So, with Brooke, he worked on leg-strengthening exercises and standing practice.
Once the big day arrived, his improved physical strength gave him the peace of mind to enjoy the occasion.
Angela paid tribute to The Physio Co’s efforts to help Vito smash his goal. “My dad has significantly improved with the utmost care of his physio Brooke,” she says.
“For the first time in over 12 months it was possible to have Dad out and about to celebrate his belated 90th birthday, and he is eagerly awaiting his 91st so we can do this once more – and we can.
“Physio has improved his ability to do things we never thought possible.”
For her part, Brooke was delighted with her star ‘pupil’, and took special delight in seeing him realise his goal.
She says: “I’m so happy to have been able to contribute to getting Vito out to celebrate his belated 90th with his family, now that restrictions have eased, and knowing that outings for a few hours are now possible for him.
“I loved seeing the photos from the event with all of his family and of Vito meeting his newest little family member. Well done to Vito for putting in the hard work.”
We at The Physio Co echo those words – well done Vito. Hard work is the key to smashing those goals and Vito stuck to his word and made it happen. Looking forward to your 91st!
